January 6, 2007 Minutes

The COMSA Workout Group Rep meeting took place on January 6, 2007 at the Highlands Ranch Recreation Center.  The meeting was called to order at 11:20 a.m. with the following present:  Heather Hagadorn (Chair, DU Rep), Nicole Vanderpoel (Vice Chair, HR Rep), Kathy Garnier (Secretary), Susan Nolte (Treasurer), Marcia Anziano (Registrar), Ellen Campbell (Newsletter, Inverness Rep), Nancy Kern (CWW Rep), and John O'Keefe (Broomfield Rep).

Nicole reported on the Postal Swim Series for 2007.  The 1-Hour swim must be completed before the end of January with a free pool rental session being held at the DAC on Sunday, January 21 at 12 noon.  She is encouraging participation with articles in the newsletters and updates on the website.  A national patch can be earned if you complete all 5 postal swims over the course of the year.  On a local level, it was approved that COMSA would provide newly-designed postal swim caps for COMSA participants.

Marcia provided an update on the upcoming stroke clinic on January 27th and 28th at the Fitzsimmons Pool in Aurora.  This pool is available on Sundays and a fall clinic is being pursued.

Heather reviewed the current schedule of upcoming meets.  It was discussed that the State Meet was scheduled over the Easter weekend.  Nicole will contact DU for options in moving the meet to the next weekend.

The next newsletter due out in May was discussed by Ellen.  The deadline for this issue is April 1st and will highlight the open water and long course season.  She is always looking for newsworthy articles on swimmers, teams and special interests.

Definitions for COMSA teams and workout groups were reviewed.  Heide Crino of Inverness Masters was suggested as a coordinator for the CMS team and will be contacted by Ellen.  COMSA individual and relay records are now available on the website and being maintained by Will Amos.

Chatfield open water swimming was discussed.  Marcia has met with the new ranger for discussion about the 2007 season.  Topics discussed including monitor requirements for all groups, monitors having phone number for rangers, correct start location, parking locations, moving signage and adding more signage, and general awareness of all rules.  Nancy Kern will check with the CWW members for a volunteer to oversee the monitoring responsibilities and scheduling.  She will follow up with Marcia to move forward with this task.

In closing, it was MSA'd to approve the minutes from the November 1, 2006 meeting and to approve two new committee chair appointments-Kim Crouch as Webmaster and Kevin Nash as Sanctions Chair.  The meeting was adjourned at 12:02 p.m.
